I was recently blog-hopping and came across this tutorial on adding borders to our quilts on one called From My Carolina Home.  I always enjoy learning new things as well as reinforcing existing knowledge, so I thought I would share her information with you.  She offers a comparison in method and results for the measure-n-cut and slap-n-sew methods.  While I have been doing the measuring and then cutting for a LONG while now, this tutorial really brought the different results to light.

Over the years I have found vintage quilt blocks with the hopes of setting them into a completed quilt.  Well, a few years ago, I found a set of 12 small Dresden plate blocks like this, Image

and just last week, I found a set of 11 larger and more elaborate blocks like this. Image

Now I am trying to decide if I should try to combine them into one awesome and unique quilt or set them in two separate quilts.  What do you think?  Leave a comment to share your ideas.

We’re Moving

Quilted Dreams is not moving location, but we have become part of Friendship Cabin, our online quilt store specializing in reproductions, primitives, antique/vintage quilts and any other quilt-related items that strike our fancy.

Quilting services are still available at the same place.  We hope you visit us.

Customer's Christmas Dresden Plate

Just finished this for a customer! It really puts me in the Christmas spirit.

Another finish

Finished this yesterday for my dear friend, Sandra.

Finished and displayed

New customer just picked up this Southwest applique sampler quilt. She was pleased with the finished product.

Wow, what a show!

Our local guild show finished up Saturday, and I am still reeling and humbled by the experience.  My Amazon Star and Not My Last Quilt, a reproduction BOM, both won first place ribbons in their category, but the Amazon closed the show with an additional three ribbons!  I was surprised but thrilled to see that it was awarded the Machine Quilting Merit ribbon for best longarm quilting because we have some very talented longarmers in our guild.  Then at the close of the show, it recieved the People’s Choice and Member’s Choice ribbons!  It all seems like a dream.

Labyrinth Quilt

Finished Shelley’s labyrinth quilt this week, and I really enjoyed quilting this.

Baby Quilt Finished

Well, after three Amazon Stars in a row, I was glad to see this simple yet elegant baby quilt come up in the queue.  I chose the Alex design by Ann Bright.

Amazon Times Three

I have been negligent in posting here on the blog so I will try to catch you up with glimpses of what has been going on in the work room of Quilted Dreams.

The last photo I posted was of my Amazon Star at the beginning of the quilting process.  Well, it is quilted but the binding and label have not been attached so the photos of it are in sections.  I promise to post a photo of the entire quilt but it will have to be when my sweet husband can help me hang the monster!

When I got mine off the frame, I then began work on another Amazon Star that belongs to my dear friend, Kathy, who has entered in the State Fair of Texas’s quilt show.  She will find out after September 1st if her quilt will actually be exhibited at the fair.  I have positive vibes about this one….

And believe it or not, a third Amazon Star was load immediately after Kathy picked hers up.  This one belongs to another dear friend, Shelley, who plans to enter hers in the Des Moines guild show which is held in conjunction with the AQS show in Des Moines.  We will be visiting this quilt there in October and hope to see a ribbon on that one as well.
